for pvp you need burst dps exclusively.
str is your sustained dps for PVE. crits is your dps for PVP. spells help out in both departments.
but what you will find is that most fights end real fast for a DRK (from my experience) - I only did duels as I am on PVE server. But the way the duel goes for me, against pretty much any class...
Duel Starts;
I cast torture;
I cast Terror Incarnate to raise DC to 5 Instantly;;
I cast WoD;
I cast Shadow Step/Harrow;
- that is over 5k dmg in 90% of the cases. Even at level 50 this insta kills most people, and whomever lives through are forced to either run or heal. Either case -
Snare/Fear;
Cull - > torture -> another shadow step.
