It was changed to allow skill-ups on resists but I would imagine the rate on a skill up from a resist is lower than when it succeeds and I would assume that is intended. If they are at 140 skill (level 14 equivelant) casting on level 40+ mobs there would be substantial resists on Abyssal.

I am doubtful there is a penalty in the code for having a larger disperity in "current:max skill ratio". I think it's probably the same rate from skill 1 - 500, they just aren't getting enough successes to keep up with someone with a skill level closer to max and they are leveling too fast and compounding the issue. Double experience weekends certainly didn't help anyone trying to increase their conjuration level vs max allowable.

Without someone posting their actual logs of skill-ups per attempt in 10,000 casts, and whether it was on a resist or success, it's hard to really say how much someone uses a skill in a given time and "a lot" , "all the time", and "extensively" are subjective generalizations. A lot happens in an hour that can distract you from a pattern and the number of times you actually use an ability.....not to mention frustrated people tend to overstate.

If they are actually casting dark ward 100 times for an average of 1 skill up then they need to start keeping a log because something is wrong.

My brother is a shaman. I have had to listen to him tell me how he uses conjuration "all the time" but it doesn't go up. He was at 93 / 250 the other night. I played his shaman for 3 hours in a group and increased his conjuration by 22 points. I didn't chain cast anything I just made an effort to include a conjuration ability in every fight. I would make 1-3 conjuration casts per mob. Of those casts 1-2 per mob were offensive abilities, like our abyssal chains, so would often be resisted, and the other occasional sprinkled in was life ward so it always landed like our dark ward would.

My brother's response was that I was lucky and it didn't make sense because he sat there for "almost an hour" chain casting his life gem (whatever resurects them) until he got frustrated when he didn't get any skill ups. Wait what? You can farking get skillups from that? So I logged him on again and chain cast it for 10 minutes and got 4 skill ups......it probably would have been faster but I didn't know you could ALSO chain cast on your pet so I was casting, destroying the orb in his bag, then casting again.
