At level 12 you have a ton of quests start to open up for you. Head to 3 rivers and start doing missives and quests in that area. You can start killing bandits and the bug bear series. Also grab what you can from Themnwars shield, there's some great quests there for you to start entering the depths of Khegors End.
Also if you haven't done so already there's a small camp with 2 sisters which open up the stories for the meteors. That alone should get your a level or 2.
After that the path is set for you. You'll get higher level and head over to start the Renton Keep quests and then even further to do Mysthaven, etc.

PS: Make sure to get the quest 8 legged problem from the dwarf standing just outside the damn on the road to Tursh side.
It's a soloable quest for you and rewards an excellent chest peice for your level.
