Don't need no steenking Shield
Back in the old days of EQ tanking, I don't think I ever saw a war tank with a shield, but then they didn't need to as long as their healers knew their game.
I think the one obstacle Tanks in general will have to overcome is the "WoW Mentality." I'm not trying to be incendiary with that comment either. Let's face it, Vanguard is being made by the folks who created EQ. From a tanking perspective, those who never tanked in EQ have some catching up to do. The theory is the same, but the practice (between EQ tanking and WoW tanking) is hugely different.
The folks who only know WoW are at a disadvantage if they keep clinging to the dynamics/mechanics of that game and expect it to hold true in Vanguard. To be fair, so would any EQ tank who expected the "tanking experience" in Vanguard to be exactly the same. It just seems that the learning curve for a WoW-only tank will be much steeper.
