Well, the choice all depends on how you want to look at "historical paladins." Certainly the original depiction of them for most people is King Aurthur, so sword and shield is correct in most people's eyes....although Aurthur never used a shield. However, real life knights were expected to be well versed in ALL weapons with one notable exception.... the dagger was generally considered a "weapon of the treacherous." Me personally, in 5+ years of EQ1, I couldn't be parted from my 2h swords, and 1h/shield.... especially if it had an appropriate name, like my trusty Redemption.
