I would simply categorize the difference of rescue and intercept by saying the heavy tank would throw his body/shield in front of his defensive target to mitigate any incoming damage. Whereas, the offensive fighter, as stated above, will ward off attacks with attacks. I'm thinking parrying and riposte are going to be big for offensive intercepts.
That being said, I also believe that simply "rescuing" or "intercepting" may not always work. This would be costly to all members involved. Imagine the heavy tank mis-timing his rescue, and jumping in front of his defensive target only to sail right past and watch in horror as he lies on the ground as the caster gets sliced through. The heavy tank would also be off-balance and vulnerable to a devastating attack.
Much to think about. Those with the higher perception will most likely be most adept at this.
