Hopefully this helps in some way to the OP's issues.

I think maybe Vista is probably the main reason for the crashes, but your performance is considerably better than what the OP claims to be getting.. I would put that down to having an 8800
I dont know the dollar conversion, but I bought a 7900GTO for £180... and going from 2 gig to 4 gig would cost about £150..
Actually I still only have 1 gig and my 7900 on XP is fantastic!.. I Get about 20% less performance than you to Agonee.. and I dont get ANY of the crashes ( not since reformating and re-installing everything )

Indeed they do need to address some issues, but you say you can "hardly move" ?
In anycase, what you are saying suggests that you have a problem somewhere that is NOT related to VG - you said it yourself, on your old system you can run fine, and your new super-dupa machine you can "hardly move" so why blame VG?
Personally I would get your copy of XP from your old machine and re-install it.
Unless you purchased an "XP to VISTA-Upgrade" *shudders the thought* in which case you probably need to reformat, install XP and install your upgrade STRAIGHT AWAY! - and then defragment. Then re-install Vanguard, and defragment again
Edit: EQ, EQ2, LOTRO dont even compare graphically to VG, comparing them to VG is not even like comparing apples to oranges... its more like comparing grapes to bananas ^^
