from someone who works on a QA team:
Patches are on my plate for a week. They are on one test enviro until they pass all tests. Then we move the patch to a stage enviro and it sits there until it passes all the tests. Then we move it to the beta enviro.
During an actual beta, we patch daily at my job. All released patches do not overwrite previous patches. Often there are NEW fixes implemented with the new patch. Some of my testers are diligent enough that they actually duplicate our regression testing *with every patch**
Just because we get a patch today does not mean the previous patch is overwritten nor that all the changes will make it to live if they feel the testing process has not been adequate
*yes... I do full regression on every patch that is released. Sorry Sigil, habits die hard
