I totally agree with you in your scenario. The problem in that case is not the group invis but rather the absolute lack of respect of those players who use it to snatch a real effort from another group and steal the boss kill (I could even go as far /petition to have them banned from the game for unfair play, but then again it might be too drastic and someone will have my head for even suggesting it ).
On the other hand if you are soloing it can help a lot to be able to get closer to the boss and kill it without dying 500x before.

Couldn't agree with you more. It's really too bad that MMO companies have to design their games and systems to the lowest common behavioural denominator. That is why I play on Test Server.
