EQ had no problem with this because they had a completely separate set of downloadables for test (double your disk space, double your fun, chew wrigglees ... oh sorry). Vanguard's test environment is essentially a set of overrides to the live environment and thus usually much smaller.

The way I handle things is to have a separate icon with /testserver at the end of the target line (outside the quotes). The problem is, as I understand it, that you have to be sure your live version is up-to-date before using this; but as long as that is true, you only download when there have been changes.

It serves you best if you log on to test several times a day. You still need to bring up the live launcher whenever there might have been changes to the client (which is fine for people like me that play both places).
