At the moment i can buy harvest tools from the harvest NPC vendor. Take him out of the game and you have then a market based solely on what people craft.

gives people the incentive to craft and creates a nice market for all levels of tools, components etc.
I both agree and disagree. While I support the idea of 100% player markets, I know I'm one of the minority - many people who only play adventurers and/or have never tried crafting are incredibly suspicious of crafters. Sometimes with good reason, though usually it's the actions of a tiny minority of gougers and scammers that gives the rest of us a bad name. Point being, the question "Should we have ONLY crafted and looted gear?" is usually met with a great deal of hostility and resistance, and it may take a while for that perception to change.

On a more practical level, in a game's infancy it's not always possible to have everything player-made (or looted). Especially in a game like this one, where many of the more useful, specialised and/or desirable item recipes have to be quested for or otherwise discovered first. It makes sense, in that respect, to have basic stuff available on vendors - I certainly wouldn't want to be the budding harvester who finds out she can't harvest anything because she can't find any tools because the crafters haven't discovered the recipes yet. (Especially since the crafters would probably get the hate even if it really wasn't their fault - they usually seem to. )

So, while I would *like* to see most, if not all things, made by crafters, much as they were in SWG, I don't mind there being very basic NPC vendors around. As a last but not least, since it's a highly loot-driven game as well as a crafting-driven game, we need vendors to sell our trash to - unlike SWG, where loot wasn't much of an issue and/or was useable or displayable in one's house or whatever.

More closely on the original topic, I checked the Shidreth-LN broker yesterday and saw a lovely selection of tier 2 tools available. The only reason I didn't buy any -- reasonS, actually -- is because I'm not adventuring or Work Ordering much and thus am rather nastily broke, and because I have a weaponsmith who just hit level 12 and I *so* want to try and make some of those for myself. I may cave and buy a pickaxe in the meantime though, just to up my mining yield.
