While this is totally sensible, and good advice to boot, on the other needle I need to say that making a bolt of jute and getting 40% of your level at level 3 is kinda fun.
SwordMage is right that recipes are not easy to make at the level they're given to you - just because you get a bag recipe at level 8 doesn't mean you can churn out As every time (or indeed much of the time). That being said, if you like to try out the recipes you've been given and don't mind making something that may not be top-notch, you should at least get a decent chunk of xp for first-time recipe use.
Jelonna - I don't have a chart, but I have made a few. Sentry = STR, Brigand = DEX, Mystic = WIS (EDIT -- eek... or is it INT?). I have a Drifter's ingot in the bank but damned if I can remember what stat it boosts. I'll look it up as soon as I remember.
