To be fair though, that is exactly how language develops. Back in the 17th (or 16th not entirely sure which) century there was no defined way to spell words in the English language. It was only after someone (can't remember who) came up with a standard spelling structure for the language that we type the language the way we do.
After all the differences between American English and English are prime examples of this. For example colour and color and the many other slight variations on spellings.
It just so happens that with the massive increase in the availability of communication between people that differences in language and spelling become more apparent and as a result more widespread. The internet is likely to be the catalyst for the biggest change in the English since its inception. I doubt our children in 50 years will speak in the same way we do today.
