Re: While we are on the topic of wow...
No game with be the end of WoW. No game is ever the end of any game for that matter.
I have been around MMOs for a while and let me assure you that every new game that comes out is heralded as the end of some predecessor.
EverQuest was sure to be the end of Ultima Online. Everyone said it, every sign pointed to it being true... 10 years later UO is still going.
EverQuest II will surly destroy what is left of EverQuest.. right, right? Well, it didn't.
WoW has not put a single tier 1 MMO out of business yet, and it likely never will.
Vanguard will not compete with WoW for its core subscription base. It is more likely that Vanguard would be the EQ killer than anything else, because of the fan dedication to Brads vision, and his quest to return to many of the glory days, features that we all grew to love and hate about Everquest.
My answer to the above poll is Maybe. Any game with the sheer level of creative innovation that Vanguard has put on the table will get my $50.00 and another $50 for my wife's account. We will log in and give it a solid go. If we like it, we'll pay for a while, if we love it, we cancel other subscriptions.
A lot also depends on the quality of The Burning Crusade. If Blizzard released a dynamic expansion a month or two before Sigil goes live with Vanguard, a lot of potential Vanguard switchers will have already ordered TBC from Santa, and many will wait until the expansion afterglow subsides.
